Grippers (Minor Change #1)
- Parallel set only - Credit Card set is out!!!!
- Tons of calibrated grippers will be used

2. Two Hands Pinch
- No changes here. Same as always. Multiple widths, depending on athlete preference.

3. Axle
- Double Overhand only
- Sumo is allowed.

4. Medley (Minor Change #2)
- We will not do the mystery event this year. I know it was popular, but I feel it ended up too hard for the smaller handed individuals.
- All items will be announced.
- Some people may end up bringing things to use, but they will still be announced.
- Items will include Blob, Inch, Levering, Bending, Tearing, Loose Pinch, Block Weights, Rolling Thunder. Weights will be manageable for smaller handed individuals.

5. Weaver Stick to the Rear (instead of bending)
- I want to include a wrist event
- I don't want to include any bending
- Weaver Stick looks cool and is fairly easy to judge.
- It was a lot of fun at Gripmas
- Wrist wraps allowed on the Weaver Stick

Since the events are not hand size dependent, there will be only one Open Division.

Entry fee is $50 and we are doing it at my house. I can't afford to carry this equipment into the gym all by myself again and destroy my hands for the 6th year in a row the day or two before the contest again.

You must qualify for Nationals in one of three ways:

Qualification Chance 1: Athletes shall qualify for Nationals if they finish top 3 in a US Hand Strength sanctioned contest announced on the Gripboard between September 2008 and August 2009.

Qualification Chance 2: Athletes can also qualify for Nationals by completing 3 of the following feats during 2008-2009 competition:

1" Vertical Bar - 290
2" FBBC Vertical Bar - 200
Gripper - IM #3 or equivalent (140#), or 150# choker close
Reverse Bending - Grade 5x6" bolt
Axle Deadlift - 290
Plate Pinch - 170
One Hand Deadlift on Olympic / Powerlifting Bar - 225

Qualification Chance 3: Complete any one of the following Wild Card feats:

Close #4 Gripper with parallel set or wider (choker included)
Break US Record in Two Hands Pinch
Break US Record in 1-inch Vertical Bar (LGC Standard or FBBC Standard)
Break US Record in 2-inch Vertical Bar (FBBC Standard)

There's plenty of room in the garage and I have multiple pop-up ceilings that I can use to increase competing area. The only events we will need to be inside for are the pinch and axle, unless it rains, in which case we will do everything inside.

I think that's about it.

Check out this post on the Diesel site for the registration documents soon. They are just about ready.

Any questions, please feel free to ask here or on the site.

Jedd will be updating the following link with answers to any questions asked: Grip Nationals Link

Please contact seventyone7615@yahoo.com for more information.Zach Coulterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16090558756698680184noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6326768354331817170.post-13164542444872604242009-07-13T11:21:00.003-04:002009-07-13T11:27:04.436-04:00Backyard Bastard Bash 5Oct 17, 2009. 11am start.

Location: Pesotum, IL

Events -
Grippers - FBBC grippers (well, I pretty much have to) rep with progressive. You pick a gripper, most reps with both hands in 2 min. 1 rep with tougher gripper beats 10 with the step below. You can use both hands for the total. The set will go towards prizes, so they'll be a unique set, the only one like it.

Bending medley - 5 lengths, better bar, 2 bends must be completed, there will be 1/4" round, 1/4" square, Bastards, Shiny, Hex, Edgins, 5/16 square, Big grade 8's as the options. Plan is to have everyone submit their choice by the week before so I can have them ready.

Human winch - Wrist roller on a frame, pulling a car. Probably 10 feet. 2.5" roller.

Monster mega medley - everything I can come up with, most things lifted, torn, bent wins.

Plate Hula with 25's for max time.

Hercules hold, done with cars on ramps.

I guess this looks like an endurance theme this year, but I pretty much need something new every time, and I only have so many ideas

Lots of prizes. Last year there was over $2,000 in prizes.

Entry is be $50. I'll try to have entry forms up & ready in June or July.
Food, beer & play after

Contact johnb@fatbastardbarbellco.com for more details.Zach Coulterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16090558756698680184noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6326768354331817170.post-31650919217943561312009-06-22T13:51:00.001-04:002009-06-22T13:51:58.628-04:00Strongman/Grip Hybrid CompetitionLocation: 8105 Beck Rd. Ottawa Lake, MI 49267 (All the online driving directions will lead to to the golf course which is just next to our property, there will be a sign on our property for the comp so you wont miss it)

Date: July 25th, 2009

Start time: 10am(you can show up as early as 9ish if you like, that would make it easier to get all the weigh-ins down on paper)

Entry fee is $25 with food and cheap beer available afterwards

Make checks payable to:
Zach Coulter
1199 Mapleway Dr.
Temperance, MI 48182

The events in order are:
Grippers in Chokers- I hope to have calibrated grippers with at least 5lb jumps between, so far Bob Lipinski and Brent Barbe have pledged their sets(Thanks guys!!!)

Weighted Pullups for max added weight- This will be considered a perfect legal lift: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=rTgtSXFSTyo Athlete with the biggest ADDED weight wins.

2HP- Normal rules apply

Axle Clean and Jerk/Press for MAX weight- The clean must be ONE MOTION, no continentals, and done with a DOUBLE OVERHAND GRIP. Just put it overhead however you can. Work those olympic lifts boys.

Medley- Yet to be set up, but I have a twisted mind and plenty of stuff to put together... devil.gif

THERE WILL BE WEIGHT CLASSES AT THIS EVENT! The dividing line will be 94kg or 207lbs. Weigh-ins before the comp when you arrive.

Grippers in Chokers will be contested the same way as in other contests. The gripper will be preset to parallel and will be measured with calipers to ensure it is exactly parallel. You can move the gripper around as much as you like but your free hand must be away and not touching the closing arm in any way during the close.

For the pullups, I will only require your chin to touch the bar. You must start from a dead hang and I have decided to lax the rules I stated earlier. Just start from a dead hang and touch your chin to the bar. A beautiful, strict pullup is not required. As said before, I will allow any width grip so long as the competitor's palms are turned away from the body. I don't care what you do during the lift, swing around, hula, do the bycicle, sing acapella, whatever, just start from a dead hang and touch your chin to the bar.

2HP, will be the actual device. We just may end up using Thornton or Lipinski's setup for this.

The Axle Clean and Jerk/Press will basically be the same as it would be at any strongman comp. The only stipulations are that the Axle Clean be done in one motion with double overhand grip. NO CONTINENTAL CLEANS. Do whatever it is you can to get that weight overhead. Strict press it, Full split jerk, squat jerk, push press, one arm at a time, 1 minute lockouts, whatever, so long as you lockout the weight overhead, the lift will be good. Work those olympic lifts and you should do well. WORK ON PERFORMING A FULL JERK!

As said above, the medley will consist of several objects. I plan to have a thumbless RT lift thrown in but that is the extent of the thickbar lifting since there are 2 thickbar events in the contest already. This will be setup the same as the MGC6 medley. That means there will be 3 platform heights, each worth 1, 2 and 3 points. The highest worth 3. No Kazmaier rule, just lift the objects to the platforms in the time limit(to be determined). Yes guys, expect to see a good size plywood lift in there as well.

Prizes to be determined.Zach Coulterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16090558756698680184noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6326768354331817170.post-29864930443988700642009-06-22T13:50:00.000-04:002009-06-22T13:51:10.612-04:001st Annual Woodall Grip Challenge resultsGrippers:

1 - Steve - Gripper #24 - CoC Hard #4
2 - Chad - Gripper #23 - BB Hard SE
3,3 - Andrew and Aaron - Gripper #21 - BB Easy SE
5 - Paul Knight - Gripper #20 - RB 330
6,6 - Jedd and Ryan Johnson - Gripper #18 - FBBC Hard
8 - Rex Hubbard - Gripper #15 - BB Hard Elite
9 - Zach Coulter - Gripper #11 - Hard CoC #3
10 - Brent Barbe - Gripper #7 - CoC #3
11 - Chris Rice - Gripper #6 - RB240...which is above a CoC #3

All 11 closed higher than a #3 CoC

2HP:

1,1 - Chad and Jedd - 245
3 - Steve - 240
4 - Rex - 230
5 - Aaron - 225
6 - Chris Rice - 215
7 - Andrew - 205
8,8 - Paul and Brent - 190
10 - Ryan Johnson - 180
11 - Zach - 160

AA:

1 - Andrew - 461
2,2 - Steve and Chad - 441
4,4 - Jedd and Aaron - 379
6 - Rex - 374
7,7 - Paul and Chris - 354
9 - Brent Barbe - 334
10 - Zach C. - 272
11 - Ryan J. - did not complete a lift

RT:(added in the 6# loading pin and handle)

1 - Chad - 281
2 - Steve - 266
3 - Andrew - 256
4 - Ryan Johnson - 251
5 - Jedd Johnson - 231
6 - Aaron - 226
7 - Rex - 216
8 - Paul - 206
9 - Chris - 196
10 - Brent - 191
11 - Zach - 156

Medley:(number of items completed out of 20 total)

1 - 19
2 - Andrew - 15
3 - Steve - 14
4 - Jedd - 10
5 - Aaron - 8
6,6 - Rex and Ryan - 7
8 - Paul - 4
9,9 - Brent and Zach - 3
11 - Chris Rice - 2

Final Placings:

1 - Chad - 7 pts
2 - Steve - 11 pts
3 - Andrew - 16
4 - Jedd - 20
5 - Aaron - 23
6 - Rex - 31
7 - Paul - 36
8 - Ryan - 37
9 - Chris - 44
10 - Brent - 46
11 - Zach - 50Zach Coulterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16090558756698680184noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6326768354331817170.post-711082348239863182009-03-22T08:57:00.001-04:002009-03-22T08:57:37.640-04:00The latest #4 closer...Aaron Corcorran
Zach Coulterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16090558756698680184noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6326768354331817170.post-7406433232254625462009-02-06T22:44:00.000-05:002009-02-06T22:45:10.858-05:00Big things are coming in the grip world...stay tuned...Zach Coulterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16090558756698680184noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6326768354331817170.post-3125794629117294322009-01-08T17:00:00.002-05:002009-01-08T17:01:38.992-05:00Ladies and Gentlemen, the one and only... The judge will give the gripster a verbal start command when the set is legal.

Reverse Grip Bending
Calibrated 6" stock will be bent to 40 degrees within 30 seconds.(see the US Handstrength rules blog at left for rules and video)

Double Overhand 2" Axle Deadlift
Using a double overhand grip, the Ironmind Appolon's Axle will be hoisted to a finished position with the knees locked and the torso fully erect. Hitching is not allowed. The bar must be returned under control to the platform on the judge's signal. A sumo stance is allowed.

Medley
Five basic disciplines will be contested. Each discipline will be represented with three different objects of increasing difficulty to be lifted with one hand. The following implements are listed in ascending order of difficulty. Narrow pinch will include the Ironmind Blockbuster pinch block loaded with 40, a 1.5" wooden pinch block loaded at 75, and the Euro Pinch loaded at 90. Thick pinch will include a 40 pound Blob, a York Legacy Blob (50 pounds), and a Blob 50 with 10 additional pounds. Supporting grip will include a 2 1/2" FBBC Crusher, a Rolling Thunder, and the 175 pound 2 1/2" steel dumbbell housed at Metroflex Gym (it's tougher than an Inch Dumbbell). Hub lifting will include the Ironmind hub loaded with 30, a 45 pound plate, and a 45 pound plate with additional weight. V-bar will include a 100 pound anvil, a FBBC 2" v-bar loaded at 225, and another FBBC 2" v-bar loaded at 275. All of the implements will be fitted with a string to which a washer will be attached. The implements must be lifted to a height whereby the washer clears the floor. Three minutes will be allowed for completion of all the disciplines. Implements may be lifted in any order the gripster chooses. Multiple attempts are allowed on the implements. Two or three bonus points events might be added.

Scoring
Four attempts for all events but the medley will be allowed. Gripsters may select lighter weights on successive attempts if previous attempts are unsuccessful. The rounds system will be used (all lifters will take their first attempts before starting second attempts, and so on.) Placing will be determined by a combined points total. The points awarded for pinch will be the weight lifted. The points awarded for grippers will be the calibration poundage of the gripper multiplied by "1.3". The points awarded for bending will be the calibration poundage multiplied by "0.4". The points awarded for the axle will be the weight lifted multiplied by "0.6". The easiest implements of all the medley disciplines are worth 30 points. All other implements are worth 10 points. So, a perfect score in the medley is 250 points.

Travel Information
Metroflex Gym is 18 miles from DFW Airport and and 29 miles from Love Field.

Additional Notes
Trophies will be awarded through 5th place. You get three attempts and you may go up or down in strength on your attempts.

Two Hands Pinch Lift (David Horne rules)
The width of the pinch apparatus is adjustable to suit different hand sizes, but to keep it within the spirit of a pinch lift the minimum width allowed is the 2 outer steel discs and 2 rubber spacer discs, a width of 24mm. Before the event starts, you will be given the opportunity to try it and find your best width. The smooth-sided, adjustable-width disc is held on a 2” thick metal rod by a pair of collars. Extra weights will be added to the outsides. The top of this is grasped with an overhand pinch grip (with no further than a 3” gap between the index fingers) and lifted until the end of the bar touches a horizontal stick placed at 16.5”, measured from the underside of the stick to the floor. There is no referee’s signal. You do not have to be erect upon completion. You must lower the weight under control. If the outer discs accidentally touch the stick before the bar itself, referee’s discretion will be used to judge whether the correct height was attained. Pinch gripping the discs using an unorthodox underhand grip will not be allowed.
Additional equipment rules: 1. The apparatus has to be loaded with the same number of discs on each side, in the same order, and has to weigh similar (max 1k tolerance between the total weight of the weights at the front, and weights at the rear). 2. The heaviest discs should be loaded nearest to the adjustable pinch discs themselves. 3. The spacer/collars that hold the inside adjustable discs together should be the same length. 4. The discs added should be smaller in height than the adjustable discs you grasp, so that the view of the lifters hands are not totally obscured, and the lift starts from the proper height.

Additional rules
4 attempts – rising bar. You must tell the judge if you’re doing a warm up or actual attempt BEFORE you do it. Weights will be added 10# at a time, starting with lowest called for weight. Largest plates used will be 25#.

One Hand Deadlift using an Olympic Bar (with no hook grip). David Horne Rules
The bar may either be raised in front of the lifter, or the lifter may straddle the bar. Hook gripping is not permitted. The free hand may be used to brace against the opposing leg. Foot spacing is optional, but may not change once the lift begins. Heels and toes may rise. The bar must be raised to a point where both ends of the bar are pulled to a height of mid knees or above and the legs must be straightened. The shoulders do not have to be pulled erect, nor the body straight as long as the legs are straight and the bar motionless with both ends above the knee joint. The lift ends with the referee's signal, and then you must lower the weight under control.

Three attempts – rising bar. Starting weight determined by lowest called for weight.

Medley – will be judged by the total number of stations completed. There will be two platform heights to load items onto. Some items will be lifted to lockout or completion possibly. You may try each station as many times as you wish within the time limit. Stations do NOT have to be done in order and are not laid out by difficulty. You may use either hand, just not both at once except on items that are set up for that. Time limit is to be determined.

Weaver Stick Lift to Rear (David Horne Rules)
George Russell Weaver popularized this wrist leverage test some 50 years ago whilst living in Brooklyn. A round stick (mop handle) is used which has the following dimensions – diameter about 1”, length 42”. Half an inch from one end cut a notch. Exactly 36” from the centre of this notch, circle the stick with a line. Get two metal right angles at a hardware store, and screw them into the top and bottom sides of the stick so that the rear edges of the right angles come exactly to the circled line. The topside of the stick is the side where the notch is cut. This leaves a handle just 5 ½” long.
The weight hangs from a wire in the notch ½” from the end, creating a leverage effect when you lift the stick by the handle. For the lift to the rear, you face away from the stick, grasping the handle with your little finger towards the weight, and lift the stick and weight off the table. You may bend your body forward as the lift is made.
The stick must be lifted approximately parallel to the floor. If the weighted end slopes downwards, you may carry on the event till the stick is level. You will then get the referees command to lower the stick. There must be no rocking of the stick on the table before lifting. The lifter hand and arm must remain free of the body. The heel of the hand must remain on top of the stick; if the hand twists around under the stick, the lift is not allowed. The grip has to be a normal grip with the thumb opposing the fingers.
For safety reasons, this event will allow the use of a wrist wrap. The wrist wrap should be no bigger than 12" x 3". The wrist wrap will be provided and will be the only acceptable wrap.
Three attempts – rising bar in small increments.
Please try to keep things moving along by being ready for your turn.

Gripbash or percentage scoring system.
